Ger. scientist who made important acoustic researches. Invented two variants of the glass harmonica, the ‘Clavicylinder’ kbd. instr. with glass cylinder, worked by pedal and revolving against strips of wood, glass, or metal activated by keys, and the similar ‘euphon’.
