A European bird of the crow family, especially the red-legged or Cornish chough (sp. pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax). Called An Balores in Cornish, the chough has become a symbol of resurgent Cornish cultural identity. In narratives outside Cornwall the chough is often confused with the crow and raven.
