The extraembryonic membrane that surrounds the embryo of amniotes. It comprises a highly vascularized epithelial layer derived from the trophoblast by the fusion of the allantois and the inner face of the chorion. The chorioallantoic membrane of hen's eggs is used experimentally to test the invasive capacity of tumour cells.
