Thomas Church was born on 20 October 1707 at Marlborough, Wiltshire and died on 23 December 1756. He matriculated at Brasenose College, Oxford in 1722, graduating BA in 1726, MA in 1731 and DD by diploma in 1750. He was presented to the vicarage of Battersea in 1740, apparently by Bolingbroke, and held this preferment until his death.
