Quick Reference

A rod-shaped homodimeric protein (1197 aa) found in the cytoplasmic domain of vertebrate tight junctions that interacts with ZO-1. Cingulin-like protein 1 (CGNL1, paracingulin, 1302 aa) may be involved in anchoring the tight junctions of the apical junctional complex to the actin cytoskeleton. A chromosomal inversion in which the promoter of the CGNL1 gene is brought upstream of the aromatase coding region causes aromatase excess syndrome in which there is oestrogen excess due to an increased aromatase activity.
