A genus of trees in which the leaves are opposite, and spicy when crushed. The fruit is a berry contained in a cup-like perianth. The spice cinnamon is the bark mainly of C. zeylanicum. Camphor is obtained by distillation of the wood of C. camphora. There are 250 species, occurring in eastern Asia and Indo-Malaysia.
