Quick Reference

There are three clarin paralogues, clarins 1–3, that appear to belong to the hyperfamily of small integral membrane glycoproteins with four transmembrane domains (tetraspanins) that includes connexins and claudins. There is some sequence similarity to stargazin. Mutations in the gene encoding clarin-1 (Usher's syndrome type-3 protein, 232 aa) are associated with Usher's syndrome type 3A.
