Apprenticed to Richard Royston from 1650, he became a freeman of the Stationers’ Company in 1657. Clavell’s name featured as publisher or seller in more than 700 imprints. He also founded and edited the term catalogues, and was Master of the Stationers’ Company 1698–1700.
