(family Clavulinaceae, order Aphyllophorales)

A genus of fungi in which the hymenium is borne on the surface of small, club-shaped, branched or coralloid fruit bodies. The basidia bear 2 spores rather than the usual 4. C. cristata (white coral fungus) forms brittle, white, irregularly branched fruit bodies 3–8 cm tall. It is common on the ground in broadleaved and coniferous woods. C. rugosa is similar but is longitudinally wrinkled, and less extensively branched, See also club fungi and coral fungi.
