A road where stopping is prohibited. The Various Trunk Roads (Prohibition of Waiting) (Clearways) Order 1963 (SI 1963/1172, made under ss 1 and 6 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984) forbids vehicles to stop on the main carriageway of certain named roads unless, with police permission, for building, road or public utility works, fire, ambulance or police purposes, postal collections and deliveries, local authority cesspool and refuse vehicles, to close gates and barriers, to avoid accidents, or in circumstances beyond the driver's control. Local clearways orders may also apply.
