US regional ballet company. It was founded in 1976 as Cleveland Ballet by Ian Horvath and Dennis Nahat, changing its name in 1986 when it acquired a second home in San Jose, California. Nahat's original works and his stagings of the classics formed the backbone of its repertory. It was disbanded in 2000 but reformed as Ballet San Jose, with Nahat as director and choreographer.
