Contaminated and non-contaminated refuse material produced during any clinical dental activity. Disposal of clinical waste is subject to strictly regulated procedures. Special or hazardous waste includes mercury, dental amalgam, cytotoxic or cytostatic prescription medicines, x-ray developer, and fixer solutions and in the UK is controlled by the Hazardous Waste Regulations (2005).
