(CZCS)

A multi-channel scanning radiometer carried on NASA's Nimbus 7 meteorological satellite to map and measure concentrations and temperatures of the Earth's coastal waters and ocean currents. Launched in October 1978, the instrument measured chlorophyll concentrations, sediment, salinity, and temperatures. It began to experience problems in 1984 and was remotely disabled in December 1986.
