A spiral tunnel within the cochlea of the inner ear, narrowing gradually in diameter towards the apex of the cochlea, communicating through one opening with the middle ear, through a second with the vestibular system, and through a third with a tiny canal on the inner surface of the temporal bone. See also oval window, round window, scala. Also called the cochlear duct.
