A ripple or wrinkle distortion between paint layers, paint and ground layers, or ground and support, which usually occurs during hand lining when the canvas reacts severely to localized heat, expanding or contracting unevenly. The term is also applied to similar distortions in paper, caused by changes in temperature and humidity.
