A code issued by the Home Secretary, under s 32 of the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004, as to the services to be provided to a victim of criminal conduct, including the family of a victim who has died as a result of such conduct. Some of the key requirements of the code are: A right to information about the progress of the investigation within specified time scales, including the right to be notified of any arrests and court cases. Assignment of a dedicated family liaison police officer to bereaved relatives. A right to clear information from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority on eligibility for compensation under the Scheme. A right to be informed regarding Victim Support and either to be referred on to them or offered their service.The Code is a public document and is available on the Home Office website: <http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk>.
