Cockerell catalogued W. Morris’s books and MSS, and was secretary to the Kelmscott Press. As director (1908–37) of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, he rearranged and augmented its collections, including its MSS. Cockerell's descriptions of medieval MSS include two volumes for the Roxburghe Club (a third discussed Brailes) and much of the catalogue of the illuminated MSS exhibition at the Burlington Fine Arts Club in 1908.
