Quick Reference

Son of D. Cockerell, who joined his father's firm in 1922 and inherited the business in 1945. He continued the family tradition of binding and conservation work of the highest craftsmanship, carrying out many commissions to repair important MSS for national and university libraries. He developed a distinctive binding style in gold-tooled vellum, often with designs by Joan Rix Tebbutt, and revived the art of marbling paper.
