coefficient of relatedness

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

The percentage of their genes that two individuals share by virtue of their descent from a common ancestor. For example, offspring inherit half of their genome from each parent, so their coefficient of relatedness to each parent is 0.5. The coefficient of relatedness can be calculated from r = 0.5n, where n is the number of generations between the two individuals.
