A slender, doubly-curved long bone extending horizontally across the upper part of the chest. Many muscles of the chest and shoulder attach onto the clavicle which forms the front part of the pectoral girdle. The clavicle is easily fractured when the arms are outstretched in a fall. Those who perform strengthening exercises of the shoulder and arm muscles develop larger, stronger clavicles, more resistant to fractures.
