A substance distilled from gum rosin consisting mainly of abietic acid added to many dental materials such as periodontal dressings, impression materials, cements, adhesives, and varnishes to improve the adhesive properties. It is a contact sensitizer which may initiate a contact dermatitis or stomatitis.
