Any of the three concentric areas of the retina in which hues are perceived in particular ways, namely the macula lutea in which all hues are visible to a person with normal vision; the intermediate zone in which blues, yellows, and achromatic (1) colours appear normally but reds and greens are perceived as shades of grey, yellow, or blue; and the peripheral zone in which all hues appear as achromatic colours.
