colossal magnetoresistance

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A property of certain materials in which electrical resistance can change by several orders of magnitude in a magnetic field. It is observed particularly in certain manganese oxides and is likely to have applications in magnetic storage and spintronics. At present, there is no complete quantitative theory of the phenomenon. See also giant magnetoresistance; magnetoresistance.
