Quick Reference

Often a transaction in a distributed system involves the updating of a number of distributed databases. It is important that all these updates occur together correctly and that none fails to occur. If one does fail, then the whole of the transaction must fail and the databases affected by the transactions must be rolled back to their original state. A commit protocol enables this to happen.
