A bottom‐up (grassroots based) approach to conservation, usually within the context of ecosystem management, that is based on two broad concepts—that people who participate in decision‐making will be more inclined to implement agreed outcomes, and that people are quite capable of deciding for themselves what the most appropriate solutions should be, provided they are given sufficient information and support.
