Overview

component video

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

An analogue video format that encodes video into a luminance or Y channel and two chrominance channels of blue (B-Y) and red (R-Y). Green is not encoded because it can be inferred from the information in the other two colours. The advantage of component video over composite is that it has twice as much colour information. It is particularly associated with the domestic S-VHS and professional Beta SP formats. Compare composite video.
