Quick Reference

Test of aerobic fitness based on the observation that there may be a linear relationship between power and heart rate up to a submaximal rate, beyond which the increase in heart rate slows down. In some runners, the deflection point at which the heart increase becomes non-linear is correlated significantly to the anaerobic threshold, enabling this point to be used as an indicator of fitness. However, the Conconi test has not been generally accepted because many athletes have a linear relationship between heart rate and power output between 50 and 100% maximal oxygen uptake.
