A family of small, short-tailed, long-legged birds, mainly brown above and white below, many of which have a white post-ocular stripe. They are secretive and ground-feeding insectivores, building nests at the base of bushes. There is one genus, with eight species, often placed with the Formicariidae, found in S. America.
