A group of small peptide toxins from cone shells Conus spp. The α-conotoxins are competitive inhibitors of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, the μ-conotoxins bind voltage-gated sodium channels in muscle, causing paralysis and the ω-conotoxins inhibit voltage-sensitive calcium channels and block synaptic transmission.
