Inquisitor. He was charged with reforming missions in Germany and won the confidence of the Landgrave Ludwig IV of Thuringia; in 1225 he became the director and confessor of Ludwig's wife, St Elizabeth. In 1231 he was appointed the first Papal Inquisitor in Germany, with absolute power over heretics. He exercised his authority ruthlessly and was murdered.
