(in criminal proceedings) Evidence that a person has been convicted or acquitted of an offence on a previous occasion may be proved by a certificate of conviction or acquittal, together with proof that the person before the court and the person named in the certificate are one and the same (s 73, Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984).
