Quick Reference

‘Convenor of shop stewards’ is the title frequently given to the principal representative within a workplace trade union organization. Convenors are typically elected by the members of a shop steward committee and occupy the lead role in relations with management. Although less common than in the past, it is still established practice for large employers to support the position of convenor through the provision of paid time off work and office and other facilities.
