Light to moderate tapering-off exercises performed after vigorous activity. Cool-down exercises involve a gradual reduction in activity, which includes jogging (or slow swimming), and stretching to maintain flexibility and reduce the risk of injury. The low-intensity exercises also prevent blood pooling in the extremities and help to eliminate the waste products of vigorous activity, which contribute to muscle stiffness. Cool-down exercises are designed to restore the body as quickly as possible to the pre-exercise condition.
