Tribal name lending itself to a barony and to a Cistercian abbey, founded 1180, now in ruins, in north Co. Clare, 2 miles S of the Burren, 5 miles W of Kinvara. The locality is cited in many stories, not always with Christian associations. Máel Dúin, for example, consults a druid here when he first pursues his father's murderers (see Imram Curaig Maíle Dúin).
