The part of borehole drilling equipment in which the core is collected. Usually the barrel is 50–100 mm in diameter with the drill bit at one end. Sometimes an inner tube is present, linked by a swivel to prevent its rotation (double core barrel), and even a triple core barrel may be used to aid the recovery of weak rock.
