C. versicolor (Trametes versicolor, Polystictus versicolor) is very common on dead wood of broad-leaved trees. The fruit bodies often grow in tiers, and are thin, semicircular brackets with a velvety upper surface usually marked with concentric bands of yellow, brown, grey, etc; the margin and lower surfaces are white.
