is best remembered for his volume of poems Ionica (1858), and in particular for the translation that it contains of the epigram of Heraclitus of Halicarnassus by Callimachus, ‘They told me Heraclitus, they told me you were dead.’ He also wrote the ‘Eton Boating Song’, published 1865.
