Gliding joint consisting of two sets articulation points between the thoracic vertebrae and the ribs. One set is between the head of the ribs and the main body of the vertebrae; the other set is between the tubercles of the ribs and the transverse processes of the vertebrae. The joints enable the ribcage to move during inspiration and expiration.
