Ballet in one act with choreography by Balanchine, libretto by Kochno, music by Chabrier, and designs by Christian Bérard. Premiered 12 Apr. 1932 by the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo in Monte Carlo, with Toumanova, Lichine, and Woizikowski. The action, which unfolds in a ballroom, is secondary to the development of atmosphere. Hodson and Archer reconstructed the ballet for the Joffrey Ballet in New York on 26 Oct. 1989.
