Transcription factors (chick ovalbumin upstream promoter-transcription factors) of the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor family; but orphan receptors, since the ligands are unidentified. COUP-TFs play a role in glial cell development and central nervous system myelination. COUP-TF2 (414 aa) regulates the transcription of the apolipoprotein A-I gene. See ARP-1. COUP-TF-interacting protein 1 (B-cell lymphoma/leukaemia 11A, 835 aa) functions as a myeloid and B-cell proto-oncogene; chromosomal aberrations involving the gene may be a cause of lymphoid malignancies. COUP-TF-interacting protein-2 (894 aa) is a tumour-suppressor protein involved in T-cell lymphomas.
