Quick Reference

A discrete programme of study which follows a predetermined syllabus or specification, and may lead to a qualification or some other form of certification. Courses of study vary in duration, short courses lasting only days, while a degree course may take three or four years to complete. From a usage point of view there is a lack of clarity about the distinction between ‘course’ and ‘programme’, some institutions using the two interchangeably, while others use the term ‘course’ to refer to a subdivision of a lengthier programme of study, such as that leading to a degree.

Subjects: Education.
