Quick Reference

A technique used in lithography, by artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec (1864–1901), of modulating colour and creating a sense of atmosphere. A stiff brush loaded with printing ink of the required colour is dragged over an iron screen (grille de crachis) placed on the printing surface, thus creating a ‘spatter’ effect in the required area.
