(1793–1848), Dean of Carlisle. Educated at Christ Church, he became Principal of New Inn Hall, Oxford, in 1831, Regius professor of modern history in 1842 (in succession to T. Arnold), and Dean of Carlisle in 1844. Besides several classical writings he published the ‘Catenae’ of many of the Greek fathers on the NT (8 vols., 1838–44).
