A framework intended to provide guidance to those who are engaged in any criminal case, as to their functions and as to what the court will expect of them at the various stages of a case. The Framework is based on practices developed by the police, Crown Prosecution Service, lawyers, and the courts. It is supported in decisions of the Court of Appeal Criminal Division. It also includes references to new practices for charging and for witness management that are being delivered through the Criminal Case Management Programme (CCMP). See also criminal procedure rules.
