A peptide neurotoxin from the venom of the South American rattlesnake Crotalus durissus terrificus. The precursor (crotoxin acid chain, crotapotin, 138 aa) is cleaved into three fragments, two of which (the acidic and basic chains) act together as a phospholipase A2 which blocks acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction.
