Quick Reference

A fusion of ‘crowds’ and ‘outsourcing’ coined by Mark Robinson and Jeff Howe in an article in Wired magazine in June 2006. Essentially this involves taking a function performed by employees and outsourcing it to a large network of people in the form of an open call. This often takes the form of collaborative working, particularly on software development.
