A commission which, under a convention agreed with the leaders of the main political parties in 1976, submits the names of two candidates to the Prime Minister when a diocesan bishop in the C of E is to be appointed. Besides the Abps. of Canterbury and York, it contains representatives of the Houses of Clergy and Laity of the General Synod and representatives of the Vacancy-in-See Committee of the vacant diocese.
