Quick Reference

Crossley spent most of his life in Manchester, and his library came to include more than 50,000 books and MSS. He had a particular interest in Defoe, to whose bibliography he made valuable contributions. After his death, parts of his collection were sold in Manchester by Thompson & Son in May 1884; there were further sales at Sotheby's in London in July 1884 and June 1885.
