Finnish composer, conductor, teacher, and virtuoso player of clarinet for which he wrote 3 concs. (1811, 1818, 1828) and 3 qts. (1811, 1817, 1823). Was clarinettist in military band at age of 12. Visited Weber in Dresden 1822. Also comp. opera and translated Fr., Ger., and It. operas for the Swed. stage. Deputy chief cond. Royal Stockholm Opera 1822 until retirement in 1829.
