(1685/6–1745) Educated at St John's College, Oxford, of which he became a fellow, Crynes is best known as a book collector. He owned a wide range of English and foreign books and MSS. These were bequeathed variously to the Bodleian Library, St John’s, Balliol, and Lincoln colleges, and to his sister Hannah.
